G. Brown Design, Inc. prepared a site plan and construction documents for a new parish church on the grounds of the Skaggs Catholic Center in Draper, Utah. Working with Edwards and Daniels Architects and the parish, GBD addressed pedestrian circulation and the need for outdoor gathering places in the design of an entry plaza, a meditation garden, and a Biblical Garden.
A variety of meditation and gathering places were defined using plantings, paving, and structures. The plant selection and arrangement used Biblical themes. A specimen, Cedar of Lebanon, is an Old Testament representation of strength, majesty, and beauty. The orchard-planting layout is reminiscent of the traditional agricultural landscape of the Holy Land. In addition, the individual gardens in the Biblical Garden were based on the Seven Days of Creation and each gardens plants were reflected in each day.
