G. Brown Design worked with Nexus Architects to provide site and landscape improvements for the Emma Eccles Jones Medical Sciences Building. It's location is restricted by existing structures, buildings, traffic and topography, presenting challenges for the design. GBD recommended overcoming these constraints by taking advantage of the “borrowed landscape” of the hills below the parking terrace, the open space around the water tank, and the plantings around the parking garage to the west as backdrops for the foreground view.

The space at the north end of the Lab building is part of a major east-west pedestrian corridor through the Medical Center Campus that can be developed into a greenway with open views for the users of the Lab building and pedestrians moving along its spine. GBD suggested a unifying palette of paving materials, site furnishings, light fixtures and plantings that will make way-finding easier for pedestrians and help ensure that the new lab building fits into the campus fabric.
