G. Brown Design worked with FFKR Architects to create a plan for the John A. Moran Eye Center II, which serves as the gateway to the University of Utah Medical Sciences Campus. One of the major site programming challenges was to create a multi-modal transit hub that integrates UTA and campus shuttle bus traffic with vehicular, bicycle and pedestrian circulation at the new TRAX light rail terminus across the street from the Eye Center. Pedestrian access had to be more clearly defined to accommodate the increase in pedestrian and bicycle traffic at the hub.

Working on a site constrained by existing structures, buildings, and roads, G. Brown Design programmed all available open space for landscaping, including the roof of the parking structure. The rooftop plaza is planned at a comfortable human scale with plantings and amenities that invite people to gather for dining, conversation and relaxation. Standards for paving materials, site furnishings, light fixtures, and plantings will improve way-finding and unify the site improvements with the rest of the campus.
